LONG ISLAND MUSEUM

T  he Long Island Museum's In the Moment program of art engagement is for people with Alzheimer's disease and other forms of memory loss. Since 2011, this innovative program has offered gallery experiences for over 500 people with memory loss and their caregivers. The programs take place in the Carriage and Art Museums and offer opportunity for mental stimulation and social engagement. In the Moment: Art Engagement for People with Memory Loss provides opportunity for communication and connection for a vulnerable and growing part of the community. The museum—in collaboration with organizations serving people with dementia—offers people living with memory loss, and their caregivers, an opportunity for dialogue and social connection in a safe and supportive setting.

"Appealing to diverse audiences is a core tenet of the Long Island Museum's mission, and we are proud to present In the Moment. Alzheimer's touches so many of us today and this relevant program has proven extremely beneficial and engaging to people with memory loss." – Neil Watson, Executive Director, Long Island Museum.
